ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM
Possible symptoms:
- A pulsatile mass in the abdomen with or without abdominal/back pain.
- Embolic phenomena to the feet (Blue Toe Syndrome).
- Known small asymptomatic aneurysms for periodic monitoring of growth.
- Any of the above with abdominal bruits.
Procedures Performed:
- B-MODE SCANNING will be performed to demonstrate the true and false lumens of the aorta. Gross irregularities of the outer aortic wall may be seen indicating possible imminent rupture. The upper neck of the aneurysm may be seen in relationship to the visceral arteries.
Patient Preparation:
To ensure the clearest possible picture of the aneurysm, the patient should not eat or drink anything other than clear liquids 12 to 15 hours prior to the test.
