VENOUS

Possible symptoms:

  • Suspected thrombophlebitis.
  • Acute unilateral or bilateral edema of the leg or arm.
  • Suspected deep venous thrombosis.
  • Symptoms of pelvic venous obstruction.
  • A need for follow-up of known deep venous obstruction.
  • Venous claudication.

Procedures Performed:

  • CONTINUOUS WAVE DOPPLER ANALYSIS performed by auscultating the common femoral, superficial femoral, the popliteal and the posterior tibial veins. By comparing normal to abnormal flow characteristics, the various forms of venous disease can be detected.
  • DUPLEX SCANNING performed to view the deep venous system in patients whose Doppler test indicates that deep venous thrombosis may be present. By performing this exam, direct pictorial evidence of the deep venous thrombosis may be obtained.
